Doctor of Health Administration (DHA)
School of Public Service Leadership
Health Policy and Advocacy
Enrich your understanding of national and global health policies, practices, and perspectives, including evidence-based approaches to promoting positive health outcomes and advocating for constructive changes to health policy. The curriculum, developed around the National Center for Healthcare Leadership (NCHL) Competency Model™, emphasizes practice-based research and collaborative experiences. The Health Policy and Advocacy specialization focuses on such topics as U.S. health policy, global health policy, and policy advocacy and analysis, in addition to core courses covering advanced health administration concepts and practices. An assessment at the beginning of your program helps you focus on skills you can strengthen or build on to improve your success as a health care administrator. You will participate in field experiences instead of a comprehensive examination, giving you the opportunity to apply your newly gained knowledge in a professional setting focused on health policy and advocacy. You will also complete an action dissertation project using participatory research and reflective study to make a practical, evidence-based improvement in your organization or community. Convenient electronic textbooks lower costs and provide immediate access to course materials. People who choose this specialization are often pursuing advanced practice or leadership positions in national or international health advocacy organizations.
