Project Management specialization

With today's smaller budgets and tighter deadlines, IT project managers who can deliver the desired results, on time and on budget, are a valuable business resource, especially those with the advanced skills needed to oversee multiple projects spanning a range of geographic locations. This online Project Management master's specialization is mapped to "A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge" (PMBOK) from the Project Management Institute (PMI®). Because Capella is a Registered Education Provider of the Project Management Institute (PMI), you can earn your master's degree from Capella and professional development units (PDUs) from PMI at the same time. People who choose this specialization are often pursuing management, director-level, or consulting positions overseeing and managing technology projects and teams.

Great program for those with the PMP credential

December 12, 2010Dave One of the things that attracted me to the Capella MS in IT program was the ability to leverage my Project Management Professional credential and two decades of experience in project management to complete the program in eighteen months. Capella granted me a total of twenty quarter hours – eight based on their alignment of two courses with PMI practices, and twelve more based on prior learning assessments. That said, the seven graduate courses I took were all top notch, with excellent materials and cases, and outstanding professors. The program exceeded my expectations, and has given me new confidence in my writing and analytical skills. Six months after graduation, I’m studying for the Program Management Professional (PgMP) exam, as well as writing a book and maintaining my blog, The Practicing IT Project Manager. I plan to return to Capella for a PhD sometime in 2011.

Great program for those pursuing a PMP

September 7, 2011Joshua Capella’s MS in IT program has been a great experience. Now seven classes into my journey I have been able to leverage the information taught to me to earn my PMP certification. The opportunities presented throughout the courses to take leadership roles, really help develop the soft skills that are critical to successful project management.
