Master of Science (MS) in Information Technology

School of Business and Technology

Information Assurance and Security specialization

The need to protect enterprises against threats to information system availability, integrity, and confidentiality has made information assurance and security expertise a valuable skill within businesses, government agencies, and military organizations. This online master's specialization in Information Assurance and Security is designed around the domains of knowledge in the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP®) certification. The curriculum addresses core information assurance and security topics, including enterprise security and security risk management, as well as such emerging areas as wireless security and computer forensics. It combines technical and policy-focused course work that will strengthen your ability to protect information system security while supporting organizational goals. You will also have access to Capella’s Virtual Lab Environment, which allows you to test open vulnerabilities and simulate and protect against attacks on system design. People who choose this specialization are often pursuing information security management or consulting positions in business, health care, government, and the military.

MSIT in Information Assurance and Security

December 11, 2010Mark I have two bachelors degrees from "On Ground" universities and I am taking courses at Capella on line towards my masters degree. I have to say that initially I was skeptical about the validity of an "on line" education. I thought that Capella was just another paper mill where you paid your money and got your degree without having to do any really relevant work. I was totally in error. I am currently in my fourth course ad Capella. All of my courses to date have been in the core group and each one has been extremely relevant to my general work environment. I was going to take two classes per quarter but realized that with the work load required I could only take one course at a time and still complete my course work with the best possible grades. In addition to finding the course work challenging I have found the professors at Capella to be both highly competent and professional. I think that anyone wanting a serious graduate degree would do very well to choose Capella University.

Masters of Science in Information Assurance and Security

November 22, 2010Vaughn I went to Capella University directly out of college. For my undergraduate, I went to Temple University and graduated in January 2010. When I graduated, I wanted to work on my career, but also go to school. This option was perfect. The program I chose is fully accredited, I am able to work at my current job, financial aid went through, and I spend my time at the library, work, and home making it happen. I would recommend doing your undergraduate degree at a traditional brick and mortar school and do not take online classes there. When you start your Master's program or Doctoral program at Capella, you go into it with a better expectation. The downfall is the personal one on one interaction and the late night socializing that you do at traditional schools is not there at Capella. There is some of it through computer to computer interaction, however you can't replace human to human interactions that prepare you for the real world. Go with this rather than University of Phoenix. Seriously.

Capella Experience

November 22, 2010Art This is my third stab a distance learning. I dropped the first two because it seemed that I was being told to read a book then take a test. At Capella it has been totally different. There is real interaction with instructors and fellow learners. The learning is both academic and practical. I should have my masters by this time next year.
